About
the GPA Directors and Associates
GPA was formed as a partnership between Robert Gillett (formerly Manager of the FAO South Pacific Regional Fishery Support Programme) and Garry Preston (previously Manager of the South Pacific Commission’s Coastal Fisheries Programme).
The founding partners have a combined experience of about 60 years in Pacific Island fisheries development. Both have personally planned and implemented a wide range of marine resource development activities, as well as managing major national and regional fishery development programmes and their associated teams of specialists. The founding partners are complemented by associates selected on the basis of experience, ability and performance: Currently, these individuals are Mike A. McCoy (based in Kona, Hawaii), and Hugh Walton (Honiara, Solomon Islands). (Note: Mr. Walton is currently acting on a full-time engagement with the South Pacific Forum Fisheries Agency and during this period is not contributing to development or implementation of GPA projects in areas that overlap with FFA activities). Former GPA associates have included Peter Cusack (now working with the International Finance Corporation, PNG) and Steve Roberts (now involved in private aquaculture/ fish processing operations in Malaysia).
GPA’s associates have a varied range of fisheries industry, training, development and post-harvest skills and add to GPA a further 80 years of fisheries work experience in developing countries.
